Job Purpose

The Nurse will be responsible for providing high-quality and compassionate nursing care to elderly residents in the geriatric home. The role involves monitoring residents’ health, administering medications, assisting in daily living activities, and ensuring the physical, emotional, and social well-being of each resident. The goal is to promote comfort, dignity, and an enhanced quality of life for all individuals under care.


Key Roles and Responsibilities

1. Clinical Care and Nursing Duties

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans for residents.

  • Monitor and record vital signs, including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiration.

  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments safely and on schedule.

  • Provide wound dressing, catheter care, feeding assistance, and other nursing interventions as needed.

  • Identify early signs of illness or health deterioration and report immediately to the physician or supervisor.

  • Maintain infection control practices and ensure a safe, hygienic, and comfortable environment for all residents.

2. Medication and Documentation

  • Maintain accurate records of medications, treatments, and nursing observations.

  • Update residents’ medical files and promptly report any changes in health conditions.

  • Ensure safe storage, labeling, and handling of medicines and medical supplies.

  • Follow standard nursing documentation practices in accordance with facility and regulatory requirements.

3. Elderly Support and Daily Living Assistance

  • Assist residents with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, feeding, toileting, and mobility.

  • Encourage independence and dignity while offering necessary assistance.

  • Provide emotional support, companionship, and reassurance to residents.

  • Recognize and address age-related conditions, including dementia, arthritis, and reduced mobility.

4. Health Promotion and Preventive Care

  • Educate residents and caregivers on proper nutrition, hygiene, and exercise suited for elderly health.

  • Conduct routine health screenings and support preventive healthcare programs.

  • Participate in vaccination drives and chronic disease management initiatives.

5. Communication and Coordination

  • Communicate effectively with doctors, physiotherapists, caregivers, and family members regarding resident care.

  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to review and update care plans.

  • Coordinate with administrative staff for medical referrals, appointments, and emergencies.

6. Administrative and Supervisory Duties

  • Maintain clear and accurate shift handover reports.

  • Supervise, guide, and support caregivers and junior staff in daily care routines.

  • Participate in audits, training sessions, and quality improvement programs.

  • Assist management in maintaining compliance with health, safety, and operational standards.

7. Ethical and Professional Standards

  • Uphold confidentiality of residents’ personal and medical information.

  • Demonstrate compassion, patience, and professionalism at all times.

  • Follow the Nepal Nursing Council (NNC) code of ethics and professional conduct.

  • Promote and protect residents’ rights, advocating for their comfort and well-being.


Qualifications and Requirements

  • Education: PCL Nursing / Bachelor of Nursing (BN or BSc Nursing)

  • Registration: Valid registration with the Nepal Nursing Council (NNC)

  • Experience: Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in elderly care, hospital, or nursing home preferred

  • Skills:

    • Strong patient care and communication abilities

    • Understanding of geriatric health, dementia care, and chronic disease management

    • Basic first aid and emergency response competence

    • Teamwork skills and ability to handle high-pressure situations
