What’s normal?

- A normal blood sugar level after eating is less than 140 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL)
- A level between 140 mg/dL and 199 mg/dL indicates prediabetes
- A level of 200 mg/dL or higher indicates diabetes
When to get tested
- A healthcare provider may prescribe this test if you have symptoms like unexplained thirst, blurred vision, or fatigue
- The American Diabetes Association recommends checking your blood sugar levels daily
How to prepare for the test
- You may need to fast for 12 hours before the test
- You may need to eat a meal with at least 75 grams of carbohydrates
- You should avoid eating or exercising after the meal until you take the test
